Shehbaz, Zardari Agree on Joint Government-PPP Talks With PTI on Friday After Aiwan-e-Sadr Meeting
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Thursday, where the two leaders reviewed the country’s political and security situation and agreed that a joint delegation of the federal government and the PPP would meet the PTI leadership on Friday to discuss the current political climate, according to multiple Pakistani news outlets.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah and Attorney General Mansoor Usman, along with PPP representatives including Sherry Rehman, Saleem Mandviwalla, Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon and Nasir Hussain Shah.
During the talks, concern was expressed over the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and both leaders stressed the need to strengthen national resolve against terrorism and ensure effective coordination among all institutions for the country’s peace and stability, the reports said.
According to Dawn, the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan will be represented at Friday’s talks by Raja Nasir Abbas, Mustafa Khokhar and Akhundzada Yousufzai, while the government-PPP side will include Mohsin Naqvi, Rana Sanaullah and Sherry Rehman.
The outreach comes days before the PTI’s planned October 4 march on Islamabad from Peshawar, pressing for the release of jailed founder Imran Khan. Some Pakistani outlets also reported that constitutional options concerning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were discussed during the huddle.
