Jackson Chourio’s Walk-Off Single Seals Brewers’ 4-3 NLDS Game 2 Win Over Padres
Jackson Chourio lined a two-run single into center field with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday night, lifting the Milwaukee Brewers to a dramatic 4-3 walk-off victory over the San Diego Padres in Game 2 of the National League Division Series at American Family Field, according to Reuters.
Trailing 3-2 entering the ninth against dominant Padres closer Mason Miller — who was attempting a six-out save — Christian Yelich and Sal Frelick drew consecutive one-out walks before pinch-hitter Gary Sánchez walked with two outs to load the bases. Chourio then turned on Miller’s 101 mph fastball to plate both runners and send the Milwaukee crowd into a frenzy, per the New York Post.
It was only the third postseason walk-off win in Brewers franchise history, following the 2011 NLDS Game 5 and 2018 NLDS Game 1 victories, according to USA Today. The win gives Milwaukee, which finished with 103 victories and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
Miller, who has been nearly unhittable this October with 12 strikeouts among the first 15 batters he faced — an MLB postseason record — could not hold the lead despite retiring Milwaukee in order in the eighth. The series now shifts to Petco Park in San Diego, with Game 3 scheduled for Tuesday, October 6.
