Google Unveils Gemini 4 Argon, Its Most Powerful AI Model Yet

Google has unveiled Gemini 4 Argon, a new flagship artificial-intelligence model the company describes as its most powerful yet, in a fresh bid to close the gap with rivals OpenAI and Anthropic, according to Reuters.

The model, announced on Wednesday, anchors Google’s new Gemini 4 generation and replaces its previous top-tier “Pro” line. A company spokesperson told Reuters it is “our most performant model yet built for complex workloads,” comparable to OpenAI’s Astra and Anthropic’s Opus on key coding and cybersecurity benchmarks.

Google built Argon for deep reasoning across long, multi-step workflows — spanning software engineering, enterprise knowledge work such as legal and financial research, and cybersecurity defence. Its maximum output has been raised from 64,000 to one million tokens, giving it the headroom to reason through hundreds of intermediate steps in a single run, according to the company’s announcement.

The model is not yet publicly available. Google is rolling it out first to trusted cybersecurity defenders through its Fairwind Program, and will then open access to paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers, with no timeline given for a general release. The company also said it is taking part in the Trump administration’s voluntary process for pre-release model access.

Introductory API pricing is set at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, according to Google’s official blog. VentureBeat reports that Google is already using Argon internally, including analysing data-centre telemetry that freed more than 300 terabytes of RAM.
