Pakistan Summons Indian Envoy Over Killing of Two Civilians in Border Firing

Pakistan summoned India’s chargé d’affaires in Islamabad on Saturday to lodge a formal protest over the killing of two Pakistani civilians by personnel of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) in the Bedian sector along the international border near Kasur, according to the Foreign Office.

The incident occurred on Friday, when BSF personnel opened fire on three unarmed civilians who had stepped a few paces beyond a border pillar near Kasur, Pakistani security sources said. Two of the men were killed and a third was injured. The deceased were identified as Azmat Rasool and Mohsin Jutt, residents of Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar, according to Abb Takk. The sources said all three were unarmed and made no attempt to cross the border fence.

In its statement, Pakistan described the firing as “unprovoked lethal force” that was “wholly unjustified and grossly disproportionate”, and said it categorically rejected any attempt to characterise the dead men as “infiltrators”. Islamabad called on New Delhi to conduct an immediate, transparent and credible investigation, take disciplinary and legal action against those found responsible, and formally share the findings and action taken with Pakistan.

The Foreign Office added that the incident constituted a serious violation of the right to life, and urged India to strictly observe bilateral arrangements and established border procedures, exercise maximum restraint, and take measures to prevent any recurrence.

India responded the same day by summoning Pakistan’s envoy, rejecting Islamabad’s account and maintaining that those killed had crossed illegally into its territory, according to Reuters. The exchange comes amid already strained ties between the nuclear-armed neighbours following a four-day conflict in 2025, the worst in decades, after a militant attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 people.
