Trump Names Leadership for ‘Super Intelligence Force’ AI Task Force

US President Donald Trump has formally announced the leadership of the new “Super Intelligence Force”, the federal task force created to keep the United States at the forefront of artificial intelligence development.

In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump said the task force would be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, effectively making him the administration’s AI czar. Clayton will share leadership with Federal Trade Commission chairman Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor. The group will report directly to Trump and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, according to the announcement reported by CNN.

The task force is charged with coordinating the federal government’s engagement with consumers, public-interest and religious groups, infrastructure providers and AI companies, with the stated goal of ensuring America “continues to lead the world” in what Trump calls super intelligence.

Clayton said the group would have 120 days to deliver a report on the technology’s risks and benefits and to define the federal government’s role, according to the Wall Street Journal. “The risk of not being first is high,” Clayton told the paper, warning that falling behind adversaries would increase both known and unknown risks.

Its ranks are also expected to include Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, according to the Journal, with former AI czar David Sacks and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice serving as outside advisers.

The announcement follows a White House meeting with AI company leaders last week, where the industry agreed to voluntary safety principles, and comes amid growing public concern over the technology’s rapid advance.
