Trump Posts Senator Tom Cotton’s Phone Number in Daylight-Saving Feud

President Donald Trump on Saturday published what he said was the personal cellphone number of Senator Tom Cotton, urging supporters to call the Arkansas Republican to pressure him over a bill that would make daylight saving time permanent, according to Reuters.

“Everybody in Arkansas, Tom Cotton, a friend of mine, is holding up a very important Bill,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, referring to the Sunshine Protection Act, which would end the twice-yearly clock change. Reuters reported that Trump told Arkansans to call a number he said belonged to Cotton and tell him to “GET IT DONE.”

Cotton fired back on X the same afternoon. “No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter,” he wrote, according to CNN. “Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first.”

The House passed the bill 308-117 in July, but it has stalled in the Senate, where Senator John Kennedy recently called the measure “dead as disco,” according to Reuters. CNN reported that when it called the number Trump posted, it reached a full voicemail box; Reuters said the number went to a voicemail that did not identify itself as Cotton’s.

It is not the first time Trump has publicized a rival’s number — he released Senator Lindsey Graham’s cellphone during the 2015 Republican primary, according to the New York Post.
