White House Launches America.gov, AI-Powered “Front Door” to Federal Services

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has launched America.gov, an artificial-intelligence-powered website the White House calls a single digital “front door” to the US federal government, according to TechCrunch and The Register.

Trump signed an executive order at a launch event at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington on Tuesday, directing federal agencies to integrate their public-facing systems with the new portal. The order describes the site as a secure, conversational entry point where Americans can sign in, ask questions in plain language, and receive answers drawn from official sources — with certain government transactions eventually completable without navigating multiple agency websites.

“Instead of forcing citizens to search through the endless maze of tens of thousands of government websites and rules… you’ll now have one front door for every single question,” Trump said in a post on X.

Google confirmed it is a technology partner in the initiative, saying its Gemini model would help “more than 100 million people access critical public resources with greater speed and ease,” according to a blog post by Jim Kelly, vice president of federal at Google Public Sector. U.S. Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia told CNBC that the platform also runs on xAI’s Grok model.

At launch, the site works as a chatbot answering questions from roughly 29,000 government websites, with citations to official sources, according to The Register. It is free, carries no ads, and needs no login for basic questions. The White House says the tech partners operate under zero-data-retention agreements, so prompts and responses are not retained, sold, or used to train AI models.

Critics caution that AI chatbots can hallucinate. TechCrunch noted that faulty answers on benefits, visas, or tax filings could mean missed deadlines, denied benefits, or penalties — so the site’s reliability will be tested closely in the coming weeks.
