India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 14.7 per cent year-on-year in September to more than Rs 2.03 lakh crore, according to government data released on Thursday, underscoring resilient domestic demand despite global economic pressures.
Gross collections stood at Rs 2,03,521 crore in September 2026, up from Rs 1,77,365 crore in the same month last year, PTI reported. It is the third month of the current fiscal year in which collections have crossed the Rs 2 lakh crore mark, after record highs of about Rs 2.43 lakh crore in April and over Rs 2.11 lakh crore in July.
Revenue from domestic activity grew 10.1 per cent to about Rs 1.38 lakh crore, while import-linked revenue surged about 26 per cent to Rs 65,525 crore. Refunds slowed 3 per cent to Rs 27,001 crore, lifting net collections 18.1 per cent to more than Rs 1.76 lakh crore.
For the April-September first half, gross collections rose 11.6 per cent to over Rs 12.46 lakh crore, with net collections up 10.4 per cent to over Rs 10.66 lakh crore.
EY India tax partner Saurabh Agarwal said growth of close to 15 per cent showed domestic demand was holding up well, with the mop-up broad-based — Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat and Karnataka each grew 16 to 18 per cent.
