Trump Predicts US Will Win Iran War ‘Very Soon’, Says Pre-Midterm Strikes Possible

US President Donald Trump has predicted that Washington will win its war with Iran “very soon”, telling reporters in the Oval Office that the conflict will end quickly and bring down petrol prices.

“We’re going to win, as far as I’m concerned, it’s going to be one way or the other,” Trump said on Monday, according to Reuters. “It’s going to go pretty quickly.” He said US officials had spoken with mediators working to end the war.

In a Fox News interview on the sidelines of the PGA Tour Presidents Cup on Sunday, Trump added: “I think what’s going to happen is we’re going to win this war very soon, and as soon as we win it, the oil will go down, way down to what it was before the war.”

Asked whether American strikes on Iran ahead of the US midterm elections were possible, Trump replied: “I don’t want to say that. I mean, it’s possible.”

The remarks come as mediators are expected to hold separate talks with the United States and Iran on Monday or Tuesday, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi currently in the United States, according to reports.

Tensions remain high after Trump rejected a proposed seven-day ceasefire in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has since refused to soften its demands, pushing Brent crude to around $106 a barrel amid fears of prolonged disruption through the strategic waterway.
